Product Description
Methacrylamide (CAS: 79-39-0; C₄H₇NO) is a white crystalline solid at ambient temperature. In industrial-grade material, a slight yellow cast may be present. It dissolves readily in water and alcohols, is soluble in dichloromethane, shows limited solubility in ether and chloroform, and is practically insoluble in petroleum ether and carbon tetrachloride.
As a functional monomer, methacrylamide carries both a polymerizable vinyl group and an active amide group. This dual reactivity allows it to participate in homopolymerization, copolymerization, hydrolysis, and crosslinking reactions, making it a useful building block in organic synthesis and polymer chemistry.

Major Applications
- Monomer for Polymers and Resins: Used in the production of methyl methacrylate and other acrylic-based polymers, as well as in specialty copolymer systems where improved thermal or mechanical properties are required.
- Textile Processing Aid: Applied as a weight-enhancing agent for silk after degumming and prior to dyeing or finishing operations. It also finds use in wig and hairpiece auxiliary formulations.
- Coatings and Adhesives: Incorporated into waterborne and solvent-based systems to promote adhesion to substrates such as metals, plastics, and paper, while contributing to film hardness and water resistance.
- Water Treatment and Enhanced Oil Recovery: Serves as a precursor for high-molecular-weight polymers used in flocculation, thickening, and rheology control in aqueous systems.
